When i first lay eyes on this i thought 'Bam! Wallpaper' and not just any old lousy one. The ones where you feel happy every time you log on and puts a smile on your face. A mass of orange surrounds this tiny pin however doesn't engulf it and so still allows the pin to stand out.
I like the warm colours in which you've chosen, the soft citrus orange and the transluscent aqua blue of the pin. There's the gradual gradient of light to darker orange evident more at the top than the bottom which gives the shot life, variety and interest.
Also i very much like the little patch of curved light in the shadow from where its been refracted. I can't explain why but its a nice little touch from nature... or did you intend it? ^^
The placing of the pin look very accurate whether its been cropped or untouched, with equal spacing top to bottom and placed to the left rather than center to avoid being dull and straight.
Positioning-wise, having the pin at a tilt creates a lovely angle and you've cleverly had the lighting so that the shadow was angled too, but not too much.
The focus on the pin isn't all there but i don't think that matters really.
How did you get the pin to stay at that angle, because it doesnt look like its pressed in much and what sort of material did you use? Looks to me as sort of paper/cardboard-ish texture.
If you took this shot with an opaque pin, it might fit in with the current background more. Possibly another warm colour or an opposite on the scale. Aside from this i cant really not any faults, probably cause i don't know anything xD
Overall i think this photo is vibrant (courtesy of the background), minimilistic (which is brilliant), and fabulous ^^
Hopefully the critique has done this photo justice, as ive been putting it off due to work and being tired
